07 Jul New and Neutral Basement Finish
Five years after building their home in Omaha and watching their kids grow up into teenagers, this family realized it was time to finish their basement and turn the space into livable square footage for their family and…..extra teenagers.
The neutral color palette was chosen to highlight metal accents and varying wood tones because function is important, but so is creating a beautiful room! The homeowner’s style throughout the house is “comfy glam” with modern touches, but as framing began in the basement she decided to depart a bit and move toward some mid-century modern furniture (seen in the tv console, towers, and accent chair) and funky additions (seen in the cowhide stool and custom shelf made of plumbing fixtures, cable, and acacia wood).
An extra long sectional in a dark grey, tweed fabric was added for lounging and large pin-tucked ottoman for a feet-up kind of space! The white tulip game table is used for late night poker games….and extra pizza boxes.
Adding design elements like the weathered gray barn wood wall and black painted doors help give this basement living space some character.
