We love when a client approaches us with a style that’s out of our typical wheelhouse, so when this client asked us for a “casual southwestern style,” we jumped at the opportunity!

The only existing pieces in the room were the red rugs and barstools – basically a clean slate! We started by bringing in an oversized, comfy sectional in a neutral cream color and accented it with pops of red, orange, and yellow in the pillows and artwork. To achieve the southwestern look without going overboard, we mixed in some camel colored leather, chunky rustic woods, and Aztec-inspired prints in the pillows.

For metal finishes, we wanted to add some contrast to the light color scheme so we used black or oil rubbed bronze finishes in the lighting fixtures and curtain rods. (Yes, you CAN mix metals…see previous blog post!)

One request our client had was for some copper elements which we said “YES!” to because it’s perfect for the southwestern style and right on trend for 2016! It also brings out the copper accents in her penny tile backsplash…gorgeous!

In the dining area we wanted to keep it casual with the rest of the great room but still look tailored. We had a table and matching bench built in a warm walnut stain and mixed in some transitional upholstered chairs in a darker rustic finish.

We loved putting together a style that was different from our (and Omaha’s) typical repertoire. At the end of the day our goal is to put together a space that feels like home and is a true reflection of the client’s style.
